Who is Mihai in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Mihai is the boss the game introduces as 'Mihai, Patron Saint of the Cathedral', found chained in his crypt during the A Monk and a Saint quest. His dialogue explains that the monk Tobias betrayed him — 'to him, I was a pagan warlock... And the valley needed a saint' — and after the fight he recognizes Coen as 'A dawnwalker... Like me...'.
Where do you fight Mihai?
In St. Mihai's crypt beneath the cathedral. The capture shows Coen descending into an underground crypt of stone pillars and arched alcoves, finding Mihai chained and kneeling in one of them, and being attacked on sight as Mihai mistakes him for Tobias.
What does defeating Mihai give you?
No loot list is shown in this capture. Instead, the dying Mihai hands you a quest hook: his sword is broken, the kobolds took the pieces, and you should 'Seek them. Forge it anew.' The reforge chain this starts is documented step by step on our legendary weapons page as the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai.
Is the Mihai fight hard?
The capture does not document difficulty ratings, move names or phase changes — it shows a sustained one-on-one sword duel that runs about two and a half minutes, where damage numbers like 293 and 355 land while Mihai recovers from his own attacks. Treat any detailed move list elsewhere as unverified against this source.

Who Is Mihai in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Mihai is a boss in The Blood of Dawnwalker — the chained figure the game’s own boss bar introduces as “Mihai, Patron Saint of the Cathedral” — and his encounter is really two scenes in one. The first half is a furious sword duel in his crypt; the second half is a dying conversation that drops the single biggest lore reveal in this capture. Mihai looks into Coen’s eyes and answers his own question with “A dawnwalker… Like me…” — confirming, in the game’s own subtitle text, that Mihai is a Dawnwalker himself.

Everything this page says about Mihai’s past comes directly from that dialogue or from on-screen UI, because this is a single-capture rebuild. One caution up front: the video’s upload title calls him “The First Dawnwalker,” but the subtitles in the footage never say “first” — they only show Mihai startled that another exists at all (“But you, another one. How can it be?”). Where the capture stops, this guide says so instead of guessing; everything it does not show is collected in the “What Is Not Documented” note at the bottom, same as on our other encounter write-ups in /bosses/.

How Do You Start the Mihai Boss Fight?

The capture opens at the bottom of a stone crypt — carved pillars, arched burial alcoves, chains and cobwebs everywhere. In one alcove a pale figure kneels, wrapped in chains: Mihai, the saint at the heart of the A Monk and a Saint quest — exactly where the riddle-and-tombstone chain documented on /items/legendary-weapons/ leads you. Coen approaches with his sword still sheathed and asks the chained man if he is Mihai.

The greeting he gets is a scream. Mihai’s eyes snap open — glowing white-gold in the dark — and his very first subtitle is a name that isn’t yours: “Mihai: TOBIAS!!!” He has mistaken Coen for the monk who wronged him, and he attacks on the spot.

No phase-in, no arena entrance — the fight starts as a case of mistaken identity. The scream at 0:45

As the duel begins, two pieces of UI confirm the encounter’s official identity. Across the top of the screen the boss bar reads “Mihai, Patron Saint of the Cathedral” — a single red bar split into eight tick-marked segments with a small skull marker at its left end. On the left edge, a banner drops in: QUEST UPDATED — A Monk and a Saint, with a journal shortcut beneath it.

What Is the Mihai Boss Fight Like?

What the frames show is a relentless, close-quarters sword duel — one on one, with no additional enemies appearing at any point in the capture. Mihai swings a long blade in looping combos, keeps advancing, and shouts mid-fight lines that keep the mistaken identity alive: “You’ll finally pay for what you did to me, Tobias!”, “No more of your lies!”, “No! I’ll finish you off, here and now!” and “You will not hold me here any longer! Die!”

The only “strategy” this capture actually demonstrates is the standard melee loop: Coen’s damage lands while Mihai is mid-swing or recovering from one. The clearest proof is a white 355 damage number popping over the boss’s head as he reels from a hit — with an earlier hit in the same exchange showing 293.

White damage numbers confirm hits land while Mihai recovers from his own swings. The 355 hit at 1:32

A few details worth reading off the HUD: a small golden cross-shaped marker floats above Mihai for much of the fight (the capture never labels what it means), and Coen’s lower-right skill dial ticks down cooldown timers throughout the duel. The boss bar drains segment by segment with no visible pause or transformation — and then the capture cuts straight to the defeat scene.

What Does Mihai Reveal After the Fight?

The defeated Mihai — ghastly pale, white-haired, one eye still burning gold — opens the conversation with an accusation centuries old: “Tobias… I helped… helped all of you. And you… Betrayed me, chained me…”

Defeated, Mihai opens with an accusation two centuries old. The betrayal line at 3:24

Coen talks him down — “I’m not Tobias… I don’t know any Tobias!” — and explains he only came looking for Mihai’s sword. That stops the dying boss cold, because what he notices next matters far more than the sword: Coen’s eyes. The subtitle reads “Mihai: A dawnwalker… Like me…” while the dialogue-choice UI sits open on screen, offering “What did you call me?” or “I don’t understand – how did you end up here?”

Pressed on his own past, Mihai delivers the backstory in two lines: “Tobias, the monk… I trusted him. But to him, I was a pagan warlock… And the valley needed a saint…” — followed by the cost of it: “It doesn’t matter, now. Centuries, gone… Endless death… Endless thirst…” He also teases a “they” hunting people like Coen — “So, they haven’t found you yet. Haven’t told you.” — and what that bloodline is worth is exactly what /guides/vampire-powers/ catalogs.

How Does the Broken Sword Quest Start?

Mid-conversation Mihai weakens — “My life, I can feel – draining –” — and the game throws up a timed choice. The panel is headed “Time to Decide” with a gold timer bar draining above two options: “Fucking answer me!” and “You need help.” The capture picks the second, and Mihai spends his last strength on the real reward: “Ah, the sword. It’s broken, shattered… The khoboldin… They took the pieces… Seek them. Forge it anew and it shall never fail you.”

The quest hook in one subtitle: a shattered sword, stolen pieces, one reforge instruction. The reforge hook at 5:15

That line is the origin scene of the reforge chain: the sword Coen came for is shattered, and its pieces are in kobold hands (“khoboldin” in Mihai’s subtitle — the same nests the legendary weapons guide sends you to). Restoring it yields the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai; the full riddle, shard and quenching walkthrough lives on /items/legendary-weapons/. Coen accepts on screen — “I… Thank you. I’ll try to reforge your sword.” — and Mihai closes with two warnings: someone is hunting the dawnwalkers (“He is out there. Watching. Watching! Seeping into you, growing!”), and help has a name: “The Augurs. They can… can help. Save y-you. Trust them!” The scene ends with Coen — and you — still holding the question: “Mihai, I don’t understand. Who…?”
