FAQ

Where do you fight Echo in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Echo is fought inside The Cursed Chasm, the objective marker for the treasure-hunt quest that tells you to investigate the broken bridge and find Knyaz Skender's lost treasure. You descend into the red-lit ravine past the shattered bridge and the wraith appears down at the bottom.
What does Echo drop when you defeat it?
The loot screen shows Durandal (a Legendary Longsword), plus a Recipe for Minor Balm of Fortitude, Champion's Black Vambraces and 24 Denarius. The narrator's closing line — 'This is no simple sword. This really must have been Skander's weapon' — identifies Durandal as Knyaz Skender's blade.
Is the Echo fight strategy documented?
Only partially. The source capture is largely cinematic and does not narrate a move-by-move counter list, so this page describes only what the frames show and marks the exact HP, attack names and elemental weaknesses as not documented.

Who (or What) Is Echo?

Echo is a boss in The Blood of Dawnwalker — a glowing red spectral wraith that haunts The Cursed Chasm, a red-lit ravine you reach during the treasure-hunt objective “Find Knyaz Skender’s lost treasure”. Defeating it is how you claim Durandal, the Legendary Longsword the game’s own loot card names after the sword of Roland.

This page is rebuilt from a single clean gameplay capture (DefectiveGaming). Because that capture is mostly cinematic rather than instructional, everything below is limited to what the footage and the on-screen UI actually show. Where a number or mechanic is not visible on screen, this guide says so instead of guessing — see the “What Is Not Documented” note at the bottom.

Reaching The Cursed Chasm

The approach begins on an open grassy ridge. The compass pins the quest marker a few dozen metres out and the tracker on the right reads “Rescue your family · 23 days left” — a reminder that this detour spends the same fixed time budget as the rest of the campaign (see /guides/30-day-time-system/).

The chasm is a marked location, not a hidden one — follow the compass pin across the ridge. Watch the approach at 0:02

At the edge, the capture’s only spoken line lands: “I wonder what happened to this bridge. Beams shattered with inhuman strength.” The frame shows exactly that — a smashed wooden cart and broken bridge timbers slumped at the chasm lip.

The broken bridge is the story beat that tells you something powerful operates in this ravine. The shattered bridge at 0:14

Below the bridge, the walls glow a bruised red and the quest log resolves into two objectives: “The Cursed Chasm — Find Knyaz Skender’s lost treasure” and “Investigate the broken bridge and its surroundings.”

The chasm’s objective text is the on-screen proof of the location name and its Knyaz Skender treasure hook. Descending into the chasm at 0:55

The Fight — What the Footage Shows

Down at the bottom, Echo appears as a red spectral wraith — a translucent, glowing humanoid apparition — and the boss health bar drops in across the top of the screen, labelled “Echo” with a small skull marker at its left end (the game’s boss indicator). Alongside the wraith, a solid grey ghastly thrall also engages you in the same arena, so treat the encounter as a wraith-plus-minion fight, not a pure duel.

The single-segment bar and skull icon are the only HP information the capture ever displays. The Echo reveal at 1:22

The frames show the fight resolving the same way every melee duel in the game does: you land hits in the openings. Echo raises an arm to cast, and the recovery after that animation is where the sword thrust connects.

Punish the casting animation — the strike lands while Echo is mid-move and cannot defend. The strike window at 1:46

Between its attacks Echo resets, and the lower-right skill dial shows your own abilities ticking down (a 12-second and a 16-second cooldown are visible in the capture). Manage those cooldowns and keep attacking on the wraith’s recovery frames.

The cooldown readout is the fight’s pacing cue: rotate abilities, strike on Echo’s recovery. The recovery beat at 2:02

The Reward — Durandal, Legendary Longsword

Killing Echo opens the treasure loot screen, and this is the most information-dense frame in the whole capture. The card lists Durandal as a Legendary Longsword, and the narrator’s closing line seals its identity: “This is no simple sword. This really must have been Skander’s weapon.”
