Who Is Ambrus in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Ambrus is one of the three Boyar vassals — vrakhir — who hold Vale Sangora for the vampire lord Brencis. He governs the north of the valley and, in the words of his official character page, administers its human blood supply: extracting blood from prisoners, then moving and storing it. Blood tithes and transportation are his business, which makes him the most “logistical” of the three Boyars and, by every account, the least dangerous to fight.
His role is officially labelled simply Boyar; grander honorifics that occasionally appear in fan copy are not attested by Bandai Namco or the wiki sources, so this guide does not use them.

Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe each hold a territory, and each can be killed, spared, or in Xanthe’s case allied with. Taking the Boyars down is what weakens Brencis and finally draws the Knyaz out of his keep.
How Do You Unlock the Fight With Ambrus?
The Court menu is the engine behind every Boyar fight. It is built around Brencis at the centre with the three Boyars hanging beneath him, and each Boyar carries a block of Court Activities:
| Boyar | Court Activities | Territory |
|---|---|---|
| Ambrus | 14 | northern Vale Sangora |
| Bakir | 12 | southwestern Vale Sangora |
| Xanthe | 15 | southeastern Vale Sangora |
The overwhelming majority of those activities cost 3 time segments each, straight out of the /guides/30-day-time-system/ clock. Completing them pushes that Boyar’s Anger meter upward; fill the meter — about 75% of his activity list — and the boss quest appears. For Ambrus that quest is The Gilded Gauntlet, and the duel itself happens at Maragir.
Should You Poison Him Before the Duel?
Yes — that is the whole strategy. The side quest The Bittersweet Toast is the documented way to walk into The Gilded Gauntlet with the fight already half won.
Its chain borrows Iulian Codrin’s poisoning plot:
- Light the pillars using the Astral Communion ability.
- Fight off the Fallen Witch and the undead that answer it.
- Force Iulian to swallow the potion himself.
- The tainted blood ends up in Ambrus’s supply; he drinks it.
Result, as documented: Ambrus enters the duel poisoned and with reduced defence.
How Does the Duel at Maragir Work?
Named attacks for Ambrus are not documented by official or wiki sources. No published move list, no damage percentages, no unblockable flags. What sources do describe is a boss fought as a conventional duel while poisoned and defence-weakened, and rated the weakest of the three Boyars. So this table maps documented states and decisions instead of inventing move names.
| Fight stage | What is actually documented | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Gate to the fight | Anger filled via his 14 Court Activities → quest The Gilded Gauntlet | Do not start it before The Bittersweet Toast |
| Pre-fight debuff | Ambrus drinks the poisoned blood: poisoned, defence weakened | Treat the duel as an extended punish window |
| The duel itself | No named attacks published by official or wiki sources | Standard duel discipline — dodge, punish recovery, do not greedy-combo |
| Damage boost | Death from Above (vampire skill) is recommended for its bonus damage against strong enemies and bosses | Assign it before the fight |
| Difficulty rating | PowerPyx labels his bracket “Ambrus (Level 1+)”; he is called the weakest Boyar and the suggested first kill | Sequence him before Bakir and Xanthe |
| Health | HP not published — no reliable Ambrus HP figure documented | Estimate progress from the on-screen bar, not from numbers |

If your fundamentals are shaky, the /guides/beginner-guide/ and /guides/companions/ pages cover the parry, dodge and companion support that make the Boyar fights routine.
What Does Ambrus Drop?
| Reward | Category | Documented details |
|---|---|---|
| Song of Valour | Shortsword | Level 21, Epic |
| Ambrus’s Cuirass | Heavy Chestpiece | Legendary, 329 Armour |
These are the only Ambrus rewards named by the sources verified for this page — no additional loot table is published. For comparison with the rest of the endgame gear pool see /items/legendary-weapons/ and /items/emberforged-armor-set/.
Kill or Drink: What the Choice After the Duel Costs
When Ambrus is down you get a two-way decision: kill him, or drink his blood.
The catch, and the reason The Bittersweet Toast changes the math: if his blood is the poisoned blood he consumed, drinking it leaves Coen poisoned and continuously losing health for up to 9 time segments — a serious toll on the /guides/30-day-time-system/ budget even at his low threat level.
One trophy rides on the fight itself: a bronze for defeating Ambrus in the duel — listed as “公爵之拳” in the Chinese trophy list and “公爵の右腕” in the Japanese one; the English title is not quoted here because we could not verify it. Conditions are tracked in the /guides/trophy-guide/, and how your treatment of the Boyars folds into the finale is covered in /guides/all-endings/.
