FAQ

How many romance options are in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Three: Anca, the former novice and scribe who helps Coen during the prologue and beyond; Lacra, the vampire court member whose route ties into the final boss battle and one of the endings; and Crake, the rebel leader. Each romance plays out through multi-quest dialogue chains rather than a single gift or scene.
How do you romance Anca in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Flirt through her quest chain: stay for the Latin lesson in the prologue, choose the flirty tea and book options in Between the Words, pick the friend-then-flirt lines in Where Old Devils Lie, put your own hand in the statue during Stronger than Achilles, tell her you love her, then at the inn choose 'I disagree' and 'To hell with decency, I want you' to trigger the romance scene.
Does the Lacra romance affect the ending?
Yes. During Night of Terror you find the mandrake flower: if you let Lacra feed on it, she survives the final boss battle — but you forgo the romance scene, which only triggers if you consume it yourself. Her route also requires sparing the Urisk elder Nish and de-escalating the parley with the Urisk matriarch.
Can you romance multiple characters in one playthrough?
None of the available walkthrough documentation shows a confirmed multi-romance route — each captured romance ends in a committed scene (the inn with Anca, the swamp night with Lacra, the promise to stay hidden together with Crake). With only 30 in-game days, treating the routes as exclusive is the safe assumption.

Who Can You Romance in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Three characters carry full romance routes: Anca, Lacra, and Crake. None of them are simple favor-gifting — each route is a chain of quests with specific dialogue picks, and Lacra’s even forks the endgame: one choice on her route decides whether she is standing beside you in the /bosses/ finale. All three routes were documented against patch-1.0.0 capture footage; the exact choices are listed below.

How to Romance Anca

Anca is the former monastery novice who becomes one of Coen’s earliest allies — she is about twenty years his senior, something she throws at him mid-seduction and he waves off with “look at the world around you.” Her route spans the prologue and four quests, and the scenes are worth the detour even by the standards of the /guides/all-endings/ branching.

Step 1 — The Prologue: Latin Lessons

During the prologue errand to get medicine for your mother, Anca asks you to stay and teach her some Latin. The flirty option is “How about this book with the red cover?” Two notes from the capture:

  • You do not need every single flirt choice in her chain — most of them are enough to unlock the romance.
  • Do not linger at the cost of the medicine. If the mother dies, you lock yourself out of one of the salvation endings — check /guides/prologue-missable-quests/ for what else the prologue holds.

Step 2 — Echoes of the Silenced Bells → Between the Words

After the prologue, Echoes of the Silenced Bells puts you back at Anca’s side (the same monastery run that yields the /guides/armor-sets/ saint’s relic). Completing it starts Between the Words: make her tea and choose “I’m pleased” when she admits no one has taken care of her in a long time. Then read the book together and stack the confession: “Always” → “What do you mean?” → “Your feelings for me are more than just a belief.”

Step 3 — Where Old Devils Lie

This quest takes a day to become available. In it, pick “Thank you for trying to help me”, then “That’s who you think I am, a friend.” — teasing the word she clearly does not want to hear — and after you find the map, “Who knows what else I’ve got in store for you.” At the mountain spring: “Is something bothering you?” and “I care about you.”

Step 4 — Stronger than Achilles and the Inn Scene

Her final quest contains one route-relevant mechanic: at the statue, put your own hand in rather than letting Anca take the pain. Surviving it earns you “I am better than you” banter — and when she reveals her desire for the source, choose “I’ll do anything for you” and tell her “I love you.” The game flags this moment as referenced later.

Back at the inn after the quest, raise the ruins conversation and choose “I disagree”, then “To hell with decency, I want you” — the romance scene plays. Her best outcome overall is to let her use the source; the romance survives either way, but her story lands best if you do.

How to Romance Lacra

Lacra is the vampire noble of Brencis’s court — over two centuries old, tied to the final boss battle and one of the endings, and the riskiest romance in the game. Her route is a loyalty gauntlet: every mercy you show her world moves you closer to her.

Step 1 — The Interrogation: Spare Nish

Complete the Study of the Crimson quest with Vico; at the end he suggests befriending Lacra, opening the quest that sends you to the northern part of the city. Follow the blood stains and broken tiles to find her interrogating Nish, an Urisk elder. During the interrogation, get the information without letting him die — Lacra is impressed. Then, when she moves to finish him, choose “You won’t kill him.” She yields (“were you serious about this whole friendship thing?”) and admits you are “more complicated than you seem.” She tells you to meet her at Crown Rock at night.

Step 2 — Song of the Mountain: Let Her Feed

The follow-up quest Song of the Mountain includes the moment she asks to feed on you. Allow it — the scene ends with Coen bloodied but charmed (“Really rejuvenating. Come on, we still have a mountain to climb.”). Later in the same quest you reach the Urisk matriarch: pick the de-escalation lines — “Lakra, calm down… No one should die” and “Can we stop the hostility?” — this is a test, and she says so.

Step 3 — Hive and Seek, Rotten Roots

Hive and Seek has no romance-critical dialogue, but it holds the Isban armor chest (see /guides/armor-sets/) — and at the end, letting the captured lord in costs nothing. In Rotten Roots, take her suggested right path at the fork; the left stairs work but take longer.

Step 4 — Night of Terror and the Mandrake Choice

The route’s decisive quest. After the two-dog fight, talk to Lacra and take her confession seriously — ask about the arranged marriage, the husband, and close with “You had every right to revenge. I’m sorry you had to go through this.” In the tunnels, tell her about your greatest fear when she asks; that opens the path forward.

Then the mandrake. In the crypt you find the flower that grew where a powerful vampire crossed the veil — deadly to humans, intoxicating to the undead:

How to Romance Crake

Crake is the rebel leader of the valley’s persecuted minority and — as he admits only after several missions of trust — Ascar’s son, estranged from a father who disowned him. He is attracted to both men and women, has kept that secret since his father warned him of persecution, and still secretly watches over Ascar “like a guardian angel,” though “he thinks I’m the devil.”

His route develops through his companion quests rather than a single scripted confession: the candid conversation about his father (answer with acceptance — “nothing you say will change my attitude towards you”), his confession about who he is, and his dream that one day his father might say “I was wrong.” The route culminates in a quiet scene where the two agree that if they survive, they will keep hiding — together (“I could do that.” “Me too.”).

Which Romance Should You Choose?

  • Anca — the warmest, most complete route: prologue to inn scene, fully documented choices, and it coexists cleanly with the day-side of the /guides/beginner-guide/ loop.
  • Lacra — the deepest story integration: her route is effectively a hidden vampire-alliance questline with an endgame consequence (the mandrake), pairing naturally with the night-form toolkit in /guides/vampire-powers/.
  • Crake — the companion route with the most political texture, and the least documented. Worth it for his story; do it for the character, not the checklist.

All three are built for one run of the 30 days — and per the /guides/one-playthrough-faq/, that is the real constraint. Choose who Coen’s story belongs to before the clock does.
