The Blood of Dawnwalker Upgrade & Crafting Guide: Vendors, Not Mining

Upgrading weapons and armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker is a vendor service paid for in denarius. There is no forge, no mining node, and no material chain.

FAQ

Is there crafting or forging in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Not for gear. Weapons and armor are improved by paying a vendor — blacksmith or armourer — in denarius; there is no crafting table, forge, or material collection step. Crafting in the strict sense exists only for consumables: potions, pastes, balms and oils made from water, herbs and reagents once you hold the matching Recipe.
How much does upgrading cost?
It scales with the item's quality tier and with Coen's level, so low-tier gear is cheap early and legendary gear costs thousands of denarius late. Exact per-level prices are not documented by official or wiki sources as of patch 1.0.0.
Do ore nodes or herb nodes respawn?
There is no documented mining node system to respawn. No official or wiki source lists ore veins, respawn timers, or material drop tables, because gear progression does not consume materials. Herb gathering for alchemy exists, and the Forager talent raises its yield.
What are Blood Leeches used for?
They are a drop, not a forging ingredient. Leeches come off the blood-leech barrel camps you destroy as Court Activities against Brencis's Boyars — an operation that costs three time segments and pushes Infamy, not a mining or crafting loop.

Do You Need Forging Materials In The Blood of Dawnwalker?

No. This is the correction this page exists for: there is no material chain behind gear progression in The Blood of Dawnwalker. No ore veins to mine, no monster parts to bank up, no tier-gated recipe ingredients, no workbench to unlock. As games.gg put it when the upgrade system was documented, “There is no crafting table to hunt down or resource farming loop to grind through.”

What the game does have:

  1. Vendor upgrades — pay denarius to have a weapon or armor piece improved.
  2. Consumable crafting — mix potions, pastes, balms and oils from water, herbs and reagents, provided you hold the Recipe.

Everything below covers those two systems. An earlier revision of this page listed a material rarity table, per-boss material drops, a merchant-sold rare ore and a one-day farming loop; none of that exists in the game, and that content has been removed rather than reworded.

How Do You Upgrade Weapons And Armor?

You take the item to a craftsperson and pay. Weapons and metal armor go to a blacksmith or armourer; the transaction is denarius for a quality-tier increase, with no materials consumed.

The practical consequence for build planning: an item you like can be carried by paying for upgrades, so pick a few pieces you actually want rather than chasing drops. The pieces worth funding are indexed in /items/emberforged-armor-set/ and /guides/best-weapons/.

What Can You Actually Craft?

Only consumables, and the recipe is the gate. The documented loop is:

  • Water + herbs/reagents + a learned Recipe → the item.
  • Every item needs its own Recipe, picked up in the world or received from quests. Documented examples: Recipe for Minor Fortitude Paste, Recipe for Minor Revitalising Tonic, Recipe for Minor Vitality Balm, Recipe for Vigour Infusion, Recipe for Potent Keen Eye Potion.
  • Some crafts are time-locked — certain items can only be made during the day, others only at night.
  • Buff duration is measured in time segments, not seconds, so a paste you brew at the start of a night covers a defined slice of it (see /guides/30-day-time-system/).
  • Forager, a talent on the Witchcraft side of the skill trees, increases what harvesting yields — the closest this game gets to a gathering perk (see /guides/skill-trees/).

Because the durations are segment-based, consumables are planning material, not panic buttons — the build write-ups in /guides/best-builds/ treat the alchemy wheel as part of the rotation rather than optional clutter.

Are Blood Leeches A Crafting Material?

No, and putting them in the right context matters. Blood Leeches are a real pickup — they come off the leech barrel camps you destroy as part of the Court Activities you run against Brencis’s Boyars.

The three vassal campaigns that use these nodes are documented on the boss pages: /bosses/ambrus/, /bosses/bakir/ and /bosses/xanthe/.

What Is Not Documented

Stating the gaps explicitly, as of patch 1.0.0:

  • No ore veins, mining nodes, or respawn timers — no official or wiki source documents a mining cycle at all.
  • No material drop tables for weapons or armor upgrades.
  • No item tier upgrade material costs — upgrades consume denarius only.
  • Exact upgrade prices per quality tier and level are not published; only the scaling direction is documented.
  • Full recipe list and reagent lists per consumable are only partially documented; the recipes named above are the ones confirmed by name.

Sources & Verification

Coverage note: this page was rewritten on 2026-09-12 from a fabricated template version (material rarity tables, a one-day mining route, merchant-sold rare ore, node respawn timers). Those systems do not appear in any source above and were deleted. Verified against gameVersion 1.0.0, last verified 2026-09-12; re-verify if a patch introduces real crafting.
